Join me for a screening of the powerful movie “The Connection”, to learn about the link between the mind and body and how our emotions and stress can impact our overall health, and how Yoga and Meditation can help us! We’ll be raising much needed funds for the Ban Bhounkham school on Done Daeng Island in Southern Laos. Done Daeng Island is the location of the Karma Yoga Retreat that I run and, while 10% of the retreat fee also is donated to this project, we would like to raise as much money as possible to support the host community of this retreat.
“The Connection”, released in 2014, features scientists, researchers, writers and doctors, as well as remarkable true stories of people adding mind body medicine to their healing toolkit to recover from severe back pain, heart disease, infertility, cancer and multiple sclerosis. While the science is complex, the solutions for people suffering with illness are astonishingly simple. The film shows that we can counter the harmful affects of stress with an equally powerful relaxation response triggered through specific techniques such as meditation. It shows that emotions can impact the course of an illness for better or for worse and could even be the difference between life and death. The film explains the mechanisms behind belief, which scientists now know contributes 30 to 50 percent of the effect of any known biological cure and explores how scientists at the cutting edge are now learning that the mind can even influence the expression of genes and the rate at which we age.
Drinks and snacks will be available to buy and raffle tickets will be available with great hampers & prizes including: Private yoga class and workshop vouchers, Lao village craft products, Essential Oils, local Bright & Surrounds produce and some extra special additions.
The Ban Bhounkham School
The school of Ban Boungkham has 115 students for 7 teachers. The village of Ban Boungkham itself is around a 100 families, but the school welcomes kids from 4 villages around. The school requires much maintenance work including toilet facilities and structural improvements.
Our donations from the 2018 retreat (around AUD$2000) helped to fund a new concrete floor for the school so that the students can continue to study in comfort during the rainy season and flooding of the Mekong River.
Check out the ‘before’ and ‘after’ shot below of the new floor!
I hope to see you at the event on Monday 26 August to be inspired and to continue supporting positive change in the world!
